Japji Sahib

Japji Sahib is part of the Aquarian Sadhana and is chanted every morning by Kundalini Yoga Teachers and Students all over the world. (takes about 20 minutes) It comes from the Sikh Religion and they chant it every morning too.

(This version is from Mata Mandir Singh's Japi Sahib pdf booklet, hand typed by Sat Avtar Kaur, several times, any errors are mine)

Japji Sahib, I have Mata Mandir Singh, and because he plays the music, it takes longer, but is easier to hear when memorializing it.

Japji Sahib- this is the way you would say it and takes about 25 minutes, MSS Guru Raj Kaur, and Amarijit Kaur -both have recordings which you can purchase at Ancient Healing Ways or Spirit Voyage.

NOTE: The spelling on Mata Mandir Singh's version is different than Spirit Voyages versions. But they are the same words. Spirit Voyage has created a series of pages on each Pauri, explaining the meaning. They are well worth reading. ~ Sat Avtar Kaur

    Mantra for Family Karma:
    (the 24th Pauri of Japji)

Codes within our cells are written by our family's history and determine more than what we look like and to what diseases we are prone. Even when we are vastly different that the rest of our family, certain tendencies toward discontent or misfortune can be present in our unconscious and subconscious from childhood.

This holiday season, if you are surrounded by family, there is a mantra that you can keep playing in your Ipod, or singing to yourself in sadhana. This mantra breaks family karma. It is said to shatter misfortune with the power of a thunderbolt and affect generations. It is a powerful mantra of change and transformation for you and your whole family.

    Mantra for Ego
    (The 33rd Pauri of Japji)

This pauri, of Japji is said to remove negativity, smooth the ruffled feathers of your ego, prevent harm to another by your hand, and bring you into a greater sense of your own divinity.

Karma is a way of saying that your ∫ offering (meaning the sum total of your thoughts, words, actions, and feelings) create a field around you that resonates with other energies and that this field is stored across lifetimes. If your vibration is positive, your offering is positive and your point of attraction is also positive.

You may have put out one vibration, but this powerfully charged mantra overrides it, overtakes it, and transforms the energy into something wonderful. It's a mantra do-over button. It will shift your energy deeply and powerfully, helping you move past your karma and your conditions.

    The Indescribable Experiences
The 36th and 37th Pauree of Japji

Sometimes when you meditate, you may "get a message" from an angel, spiritual teacher or from Guru Ram Das. It is the presence of these guides in the level of Saram Khand, or what Yogi Bhajan might call the third blue ether, that allows this to happen.......

For many of us, becoming a master or an angel is the pinnacle of the journey. For Guru Nanak, becoming a master is not the last step. Beyond the Realm of Effort lies Karam Khand – the Realm of Grace. And in the Realm of Grace, something new occurs.....The spiritual warriors live in the Realm of Grace. Those who have conquered the experience of death; who have no fear; who cannot be deceived by anyone; who dwell with the presence of the Divine and praise that Presence all the time.

Yogi Bhajan once said that these first four Khands of Japji Sahib correspond to the first four levels of the blue ethers. Yogis and those who meditate can access the first three levels of the blue ethers through the power of meditation, but the fourth is not available. To access the fourth blue ether, a person needs to leave his or her physical body.

According to the teachings of Yogi Bhajan, reciting the 36th pauree of Japji Sahib at least 11 times a day brings divine realization. It grants complete understanding of the Heavens and the Earth.

In the Realm of Realization the word is Beauty!
To speak of this, no one has any might.

taa kee-aa galaa kathee-aa naa jaahi
    jay ko kahai ichhai pachhutaa-ay

So incredibly beautiful is this realm,
That to speak of it just sounds trite.

tithai gharhee-ai surat mat man budh
tithai gharhee-ai suraa sidhaaa kee sudh

From here comes all power to listen and know.
From here the saints come. To here the saints go.

    The Indescribable Experiences
    37th Pauree of Japji

The last realm Guru Nanak talks about in Japji Sahib is Sach Khand – the Realm of Truth, or the Realm of the Ultimate Reality. In this realm, there is only One Consciousness – watching everything in the creation, guiding everything and ultimately enjoying everything.

To experience this means to leave the etheric realm altogether and merge back into that Oneness completely.

Reciting the 37th pauree cuts the karma. It eliminates the impact of all bad karma.

Note: I have left a lot of information off this page and the previous page.

    Mantra for Destiny
    (38th Pauri of Japji)

Fate is being stuck in a pattern of karma.  Destiny goes beyond any one life or moment of life.  It deals in the realm of the higher self and your true nature.  Destiny is you living as a radiant point of light.  Our radiance is our destiny.  The light is our sat nam (true vibration or true name). This page about the 38th Pauri will tell you how to get beyond yourself and how many times to chant this one pauri.

More Information on the 38th Pauri.

With the bellows of awe and reverence,
He fans the flames of his body's inner heat.

In the crucible of love, he melts the golden nectar
And mints the True Coin of the Word.
This is the labor of those who've been blessed.

O Nanak! The Giver of blessings
    Has made them truly happy!

    Mantra for Respect
    (Salok of Japji)

The idea that air is the teacher, the pathway from darkness to light, reminds us to reconnect with our breath which is our only link to the present moment.  But thoughts are inherently reactions. By shifting our awareness to the breath, we linger in the present moment.  This following page tells more about the Salok of Japji.

    Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa,
    Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh.

    Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa,
    Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh.

This is a great CD for learning the Banis in Gurmukhi (includes Japji Sahib). The Sikh Youth Federation of North America has done a beautiful job putting together this CD.

The CD is set up so you can listen to one portion of the bani and repeat it to hear it again. This way you are able to hear a section again and again if you want to. The Banis are also recited slower than on other CDs so the pronunciation is very clear. Japji Sahib, Jap Sahib, Tav Prasad Savaiye, Rehiras Sahib and Kirtan Sohila.
